In August 2004 the Stroinski Family purchased Ken’s Hardware with 3 employees and created D & J Hardware. With expanded hours and inventory the business continued to grow and Dan and Jan with the help of United Hardware began to look at the possibility of expanding the 8000 square foot store. After putting together their ideas for the expansion they realized the stores location was not large enough for the expansion. The decision was made to look for a new location with a larger building site. In April of 2008 construction began on 20,000 square foot store on the south of Thorp along Highway 29 and D & J Farm and Home opened on February 2nd 2009. A couple of months after opening a local sports shop closed its doors and Dan and Jan made the decision to add sporting goods to their new store. With continued growth in sporting goods and outdoor power equipment another 6000 square foot expansions was considered and in September of 2015 the new outdoor power equipment and sporting goods departments opened. D & J Farm and Home currently is open 7 days a week with 15 employees to serve their customers’ needs.
